Discovery of X - ray emission from the young radio pulsar PSR J 1357 − 6429

چکیده
We present the first X-ray detection of the very young pulsar PSR J1357−6429 (characteristic age of 7.3 kyr) using data from the XMM-Newton and Chandra satellites. We found that the spectrum is well described by a power-law plus blackbody model, with photon index Γ = 1.4 and blackbody temperature kBT = 160 eV. For the estimated distance of 2.5 kpc, this corresponds to a 2–10 keV luminosity of ∼1.2 × 1032 erg s−1, thus the fraction of the spin-down energy channeled by PSR J1357−6429 into X-ray emission is one of the lowest observed. The Chandra data confirm the positional coincidence with the radio pulsar and allow to set un upper limit of 3× 1031 erg s−1 on the 2–10 keV luminosity of a compact pulsar wind nebula. We do not detect any pulsed emission from the source and determine an upper limit of 30% for the modulation amplitude of the X-ray emission at the radio frequency of the pulsar.

We present the discovery of the Vela-like radio pulsar J1856+0245 in the Arecibo PALFA survey. PSR J1856+0245 has a spin period of 81ms, a characteristic age of 21 kyr, and a spin-down luminosity Ė = 4.6 × 10 ergs s. It is positionally coincident with the TeV γ-ray source HESS J1857+026, which has no other known counterparts. Young, energetic pulsars create wind nebulae, and more than a dozen p...
متن کاملDiscovery of Two High-magnetic-field Radio Pulsars
We report the discovery of two young isolated radio pulsars with very high inferred magnetic fields. PSR J1119−6127 has period P = 0.407 s, and the largest period derivative known among radio pulsars, Ṗ = 4.0×10−12. Under standard assumptions these parameters imply a characteristic spin-down age of only τc = 1.6 kyr and a surface dipole magnetic field strength of B = 4.1× 1013 G. We have measur...

متن کاملChandra X-ray Imaging Spectroscopy of the Young Supernova Remnant Kesteven 75
We present a spatially resolved spectroscopic analysis of the young Galactic supernova remnant Kes 75 (SNR G29.7-0.3) using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Kes 75 is one of an increasing number of examples of a shell-type remnant with a central pulsar powering an extended radio/X-ray core. We are able to pinpoint the location of the recently discovered pulsar, PSR J1846−0258, and confirm that X-...
متن کاملPSR J2021+3651: A Young Radio Pulsar Coincident with an Unidentified EGRET Gamma-ray Source
We report on a deep search for radio pulsations toward five unidentified ASCA X-ray sources coincident with EGRET g-ray sources. This search has led to the discovery of a young and energetic pulsar using data obtained with the new Wideband Arecibo Pulsar Processor. PSR J2021 3651 is likely associated with the X-ray source AX J2021.1 3651, which in turn is likely associated with the COS B high-e...
